We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Recovery Service team in Bedford. This is a new post which has been introduced into the Bedfordshire Community Mental Health Team Structure. The post will complement the current structure of consultant and trainee psychiatrists within the community mental health team covering Bedford.

We are looking for consultants who are committed to the principles of co-production and quality improvement, and enjoys working collaboratively with a fully staffed multidisciplinary team to provide excellent mental health care for our service users.

Main duties of the job

This is an established post into the Bedfordshire Community Mental Health Team Structure. The post will complement the current structure of consultant and trainee psychiatrists within the community mental health team covering Bedford.

The post holder will support the multidisciplinary team in the management of patients subject to CPA, as envisaged in relevant NICE Guidance. The post-holder will work with an MDT including pharmacy, psychology, social work, CPN colleagues, and trainees. Post holder will clinically lead a sub-team within this service, overseeing the delivery of care under CPA for a cohort of patients registered with certain primary care clinical networks.

The Bedford community mental health team covers a borough population of approximately 103,000.

The caseload within the CPA Recovery Team currently stands at around 600. This caseload is between 2 full time consultants and each consultant has a caseload around 300. Around 20% of this cohort is in preparation for step-down to primary care.

Professional accountability will be to the Medical Director and operational accountability to the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications
Essential

 

  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of gaining CCT at time of interview) or CESR equivalent
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/ Approved Clinician or willing to apply for such approval once in post.

Desirable

  • A higher degree such as MD or PhD

Knowledge & Experience
Essential

  • Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or consultant level within the last 3 years
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
  • Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
  • Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
  • Robust experience of working with severe and enduring mental illness and risk assessment, management

Desirable

  • Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health
  • Experience of working at consultant level in a community environment.
