An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated individuals to join the enthusiastic consultants in the acute paediatric service at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The department offers a supportive and encouraging environment for professional development and a satisfying work life balance.

Main duties of the job

These substantive posts have been developed due to reconfiguration within the acute paediatric team. Within the last 2 years we have moved from a consultant delivered out of hours service to 50% establishing a resident middle grade tier. The trust is attractive to SAS doctors due to its SAS development programme and it is an expectation that the post holders will also support this development. Following full middle grade establishment paediatric consultants will become non-resident at night, with the aim for this to come into effect in Spring 2023.

About us

We are always looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way we provide our services. We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. Community matters to us and we are supported by 400 dedicated volunteers and have strong links with Bradford University, Craven College and Leeds City College to ensure we inspire the workforce of the future.

We want to attract staff who embrace our 'Right Care' behaviours of compassion, a commitment to quality of care and working together for patients - we want to make these part of our DNA.

Job description
Job responsibilities

The Substantive Acute Consultants will be expected to share the clinical load, the training/teaching commitment and managerial responsibilities.

The acute Paediatric Consultants in post share the junior doctors. It is expected that this will continue. The Consultants all participate in neonatal care and it is essential for the appointee to be confident in maintaining this service. The person appointed will be required to undertake the duties outlined in the job plan.

The job plan will be consistent with the Consultant Contract (2003). The detail will depend on the successful candidates wishes and agreement with the current paediatricians. The new Consultant will need to agree a job plan with the Chief Executive for the Trust. A provisional timetable is enclosed. (Appendix A). The job description and job plan and hours worked are subject to review on an annual basis by discussion with your appraiser and subsequently the Clinical Director.

A shared office and a secretary are available within the new build in the outpatient department, together with personal access to a computer and the internet.
