General Practitioner working in the Out of Hours Service

Salary: 91,953 - 115,565 pro rata per annum

Hours: 37.5 Hours per week for full-time comprising 32.5hrs Clinical commitment per week and remaining five hours for CPD/admin to be explained in interview

We are looking to recruit dynamic, motivated General Practitioners to join a progressive team and contribute to the on-going development of Out of Hours Services within Hywel Dda University Health Board.

A sub-specialty interest in Urgent Primary Care/Urgent and Emergent Care would be acceptable, but all sub-specialty interests will be considered as part of a Job-sharing role if desired

The successful candidates will be expected to be employed within the organisation on one of our four main sites where we have posts which will be based at:-

Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth,

Withybush General Hospital, Pembrokeshire,

Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen, and

Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

Cross-border working and providing cover at our South Ceredigion base in Llandysul may be required within shift times. The successful candidates will join a team of General Practitioners working within an evolving Multi-Disciplinary Team of GPs, APPs, ANPs and in future, PAs as well with responsibility mainly for providing Urgent Primary Care services within the OOH's period within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

Responsibility integral to the post are:

  • To ensure the provision and delivery of a first-class clinical Out of Hours Service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board's service plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board
  • Clinical expertise in General Medical Services/Urgent Primary Care
  • Experience and knowledge of running a sub specialty service
  • Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting and training multidisciplinary teams regardless of the MDT member's training status or clinical knowledge
  • Delivering care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams
  • Addressing the Intermediate Care Agenda
  • Supporting the Health Board engagement with the National 6 Goals Programme
  • Participating actively in CPD including Audit (participating in a Quality Improvement Activity (QIA) is a requirement of Revalidation

  • Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential

 

  • GMC Registration
  • JCPTGP Certificate/CCT
  • Evidence of private/personal/professional indemnity (This may be reduced by Welsh Risk Pool Services cover)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development will be expected to be provided and used as the basis of the OOH's PADR (Annual).
  • Broad knowledge of the Welsh NHS system and its interface with social care

Desirable

  • Awareness of local issues and their impact on the health of the locality.
  • Understanding of the clinical and developing agenda.
  • Knowledge of forthcoming NSF's and NICE guidance and technology Appraisals.

Experience
Essential

  • Experience in general practice although entry immediately post GP Qualification is acceptable for port-folio career colleagues.
  • Competent in the provision of medical services up to qualification level.

Desirable

  • Experience of working out of hours
