This post will be based at the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale and will involve working with the inpatient unit and community specialist palliative care team along with 2 other palliative care consultant colleagues. The post holder will be employed through Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) as for all the regional palliative care consultants. The trust prides itself in its role in supporting palliative care and supports the consultants in palliative medicine in Cardiff and the Vale with workforce, human resources and job planning. Consultants are overseen by a Clinical Director in Palliative Medicine who is also part of the consultant in palliative medicine workforce. An additional sessional commitment will be paid for on call.
This post is fixed term for 12 months initially to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job:
To provide consultant led care for the hospice in patients and assessment of outpatients and those in the community.
To provide clinical supervision to the Specialist Registrar(s) on the team.
To work with the Medical Director at the Marie Curie Hospice Cardiff and the Vale looking at performance outcomes, clinical governance and service evaluation.
To contribute to clinical audit and quality and service improvement within the team.
To continue to develop and improve links between the Marie Curie Cardiff and Vale Hospice, Penarth, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, City Hospice, Velindre University NHS Trust and Primary Care Services.
To work to achieve the clinical priorities of the local palliative care strategy and NHS Wales National Clinical Programme for Palliative & End of Life Care including annual national audits.
To contribute to arrangements to ensure adequate medical staff availability within the team.
