Job Details
The Department of Medicine has a strong educational ethos with fixed educational afternoons every Thursday where teaching is based on small group working, simulation training as well as traditional case based learning.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be expected to participate in e-portfolio working using the Royal College of Physicians e-portfolio which will be provided by the University Health Board. Each successful candidate will be allocated an Educational Supervisor who will supervise their educational progress throughout the tenure of the post. The Department of Medicine works on a ward based system where there are 14 Consultants in the department participating in the acute medical on call rota - based on 6 wards including an Acute Clinical Decisions Unit. There are 22 junior posts within the department and 12 Middle Grade posts.The post is suited to doctors who have not previously worked in the UK as the Department has a structured induction period for at least one month for all such overseas doctors. After the induction period the doctors will be expected to undertake supervised participation within the on-call rota before working independently. There is a modern well equipped Pathology Department with individual Departments of Histopathology including Cytology, Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology. The department provided a Phlebotomy service. There is a Physiology Measurements Department including Cardiac and Respiratory Function investigations, Neurophysiology and Audiology.
