This is a prestigious Fellow post under the supervision of Mr Nick Reay-Jones, available from October 2021 for one year and is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post is full time and the post holder will be expected to participate on the 1:14 middle grade rota.

This is an excellent opportunity within the General Surgery department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The post will involve a regular contribution to the emergency service with some opportunity to work with the specialist consultants in the elective work of the unit. There will be opportunity to further their surgical knowledge through exposure to clinics, operating lists (elective and emergency), ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings and formal teaching. Interview Date: Thursday 20th October 2022 - 12:30pm onwards...

Main duties of the job

  • To provide general surgical care within the department in close co-operation with colleagues and other specialties
  • To provide emergency general surgical care within the on-call rota
  • To participate in the department's teaching, audit, and educational activities
  • Daily ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient management of patients, operating lists and on call.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, presentations and teachings. Although, this post is not recognised for training the appointee will be encouraged in their training and development within the role.

Person Specification
Eligibility
Essential

  • Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council

Qualifications
Essential

  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate or equivalent

Clinical Expertise in Speciality/Sub-speciality
Essential

  • Recognition of and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
  • Experience of working in General Surgery
  • Demonstrate aptitude for practical skills e.g. handeye co-ordination, dexterity, visuospatial awareness
  • Demonstrable interest in and comprehension of general surgery

  • NHS Experience

  • Up to date and fit to practice safely and aware of own training needs
  • Evidences engagement with appraisal and revalidation

Teaching
