The present job is an excellent opportunity for a physician-in-training to acquire allskills for design and delivery of clinical research, while completing a postgraduatequalification and develop into an independent researcher.The renal research department is involved in clinical research on cardiovascularcomplications of chronic kidney disease. The research include investigation of thevascular and cardiac, structural and functional changes in patients with chronickidney disease, to identify modifiable risk factors and conduct interventional clinicaltrials to improve cardiovascular outcomes in chronic kidney patients. The researchteam consists of nephrologists, cardiologists, renal research nurses, academicfoundation trainees and post graduate research students. The research team worksclosely with the Joint Research and Enterprise Services ( for grantapplications, ethics applications, MHRA and R&D approvals. The team is a part ofthe Molecular and Clinical Sciences ( Research Institute and the Renaland Transplantation Unit in St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

The job provides a unique opportunity to learn the design and delivery of high-qualitypatient focused clinical trials and clinical research and complete a postgraduatedegree in research from St George's University of London.

Job responsibilities

The present research in the department includes randomised controlled trial of RAASi(Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors) maximisation in CKD patients withheart failure, randomised controlled trial of cardiovascular work up in transplantwaitlisted patients, observational study of biomarkers in dialysis patients, study ofprogression of cardiac structure and function in CKD patients etc. The departmentsupports various commercial and non-commercial NIHR portfolio adopted studies. Thepost holder will work with the team to provide high quality research in the renal andtransplantation department while mentoring junior researchers, developing grants andcreate new opportunities of research for patient benefit.
