Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are recruiting for a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry based at the Hergest Unit, Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

The post holder will be responsible for clinical management of the 6 bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Home Treatment Team (HTT), based at the psychiatric inpatient unit.

The post is full time comprising of 10 x sessions, 7 of which are DCC and 3 are SPA.

You are required to be on the Specialist Register, have CCT or recognised equivalent, or be within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of interview.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work part time or to job share.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take clinical responsibility, including acting as Responsible Clinician for the patients admitted to the PICU in Bangor. This is a regional service and may accept admissions from all over North Wales.

The post holder will be a reference point for the multi-disciplinary teams taking an active part in ensuring that assessment, treatment and review procedures are consistent and of high quality.

Clinical duties include assessment of newly admitted patients including risk assessment and drawing up of management plans. The post holder will hold regular psychiatric reviews, attend team meetings, provide clinical supervision of junior doctors, clinical staff and medical students and engage in clinical audit.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the other Acute Care Services (open wards) to facilitate rapid transfer in accordance to the established care model. There is time within the weekly timetable for such liaison work to occur. Responsible clinician's role will remain with the post holder during a patient's stay at PICU.

Qualifications
Essential
  • 12/2 Approval AC Approval (or eligible for approval)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Desirable
  • Post graduate Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
Eligibility
Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Clinical Skills
Essential
  • Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies relevant for community psychiatry
  • General medical skills
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
Teaching and Training
Essential
