Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Neonatologist post with an interest in Neonatal Transport within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

The unit in Cardiff is a Level III tertiary Neonatal Unit providing intensive care, high dependency and special care services for the local population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, as well as a tertiary service for South Wales. It is the only unit in Wales to provide neonatal surgery with approximately a quarter of its admissions coming from other units in Wales.

This post comes at an exciting time for neonatal services in Wales and has arisen as a result of expansion of the newborn transport service (CHANTS) to a 24-hour day, 7-day week service. Phase II of the Children's Hospital of Wales opened in 2015 and is co-located on the University Hospital of Wales site.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is 86,063 per annum to 111,732 per annum plus a further 26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will participate in all aspects of the neonatal service at University Hospital of Wales including neonatal intensive care service weeks, second-on weeks, neonatal on-call, as well as neonatal follow-up with regular outpatient clinics. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the Neonatal Transport service at UHW. There will be opportunities to develop a special interest to complement those of the rest of the team and contribute to research on the unit. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
