This is an exciting opportunity to apply for this new post to support the increased workload, expansion and development of Respiratory Service in NHS Grampian. 

The successful applicant will be based within the Respiratory Service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen. NHS Grampian serves a population of 620,000.

The inpatient Respiratory provision consists of a 30 bedded in-patient ward and an expansion ward co-located with Cardiology of 24 beds. There will be ample opportunity to maintain and develop subspecialist skills, depending on the interest and skills of the applicant. 

The advertised post is for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. This will offer involvement in most aspects of Respiratory Medicine in a large teaching Hospital environment. 

Specific duties will include

  • The care of new and return patients at Respiratory Clinics (expected to be 2-3/week – General and CF)
  • Cover of the Acute inpatient beds in Respiratory Medicine on a rota basis (“COW A”)
  • Participation in the “COW B” rota
  • A wish to be involved in one or more other Subspecialty areas within Respiratory Medicine could be negotiated.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).     

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
