West London Trust is thrilled to announce 3 consultant liaison psychiatry posts across our tri-borough liaison services.
These posts herald a new chapter in WLT and consultant expansion to meet demand.
WLT is part of the North West London ICS. Care by collaboration emphasises liaison psychiatry's strategic importance. As experts in building relationships at the mental-physical interface, our liaison psychiatrists will be supported to provide vital leadership to develop integrated services. With long-term plans in mind, we are looking for consultants interested in service development or sub-specialty expertise including neuropsychiatry, medical psychotherapy and medical education.
We are looking for ambitious consultants with excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills to deliver quality care, and inspire and up-skill colleagues to meet patients' needs.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work with the liaison service team manager and fellow consultants to provide clinical expertise to the team in assessing and managing patients in the hospital.
A key aim of the service and this role is to contribute to improving the overall care in the hospital. The post-holder will develop training for hospital teams and contribute to the development of hospital systems to improve patient care. This is a designated priority for West London NHS Trust and our acute trust partners, especially following interruption of pre-covid training programs.
Building relationships with colleagues in the acute trust is central to our success. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a demonstrable record of building partnerships with a range of professionals.
The post-holder will be a member of the trust-wide liaison psychiatry senior management team, contributing to the broader strategic developments and clinical governance of the service.

This 1.0 whole-time equivalent (WTE) consultant psychiatry post in the Hammersmith and Fulham Liaison Psychiatry Service (H&FLPS) has been created from a combination of new funding to expand the consultant body in order to meet growing demand and a current post-holder taking up a clinical director role within the Trust.
H&FLPS serves two of Imperial College Healthcares hospitals. The main hospital for H&FLPS is Charing Cross, a large teaching district general hospital whose specialist services including a hyper-acute stroke unit and a range of neurosciences specialties. The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the busiest in London and provides the main point of access to care for many people in acute crisis. The most frequent presenting problems requiring psychiatric assessment are self-harm and acute psychotic episodes. The ED also has an Urgent Treatment Centre attached to it. H&FLPS also serves Hammersmith Hospital, which provides a range of elective inpatient and outpatient specialist services. Hammersmith Hospital hosts the largest renal department in Europe and has particularly close links with H&FLPS for people with complex medical-psychiatric co-morbidity. We are looking to develop greater integration with renal (including the altruistic kidney donor clinic), and other specialties in Hammersmith.
The post-holder will work collaboratively with the H&FLPS team manager and existing consultant psychiatrists to provide leadership and clinical expertise to the liaison team to deliver a responsive and high quality service. The post-holder will be pivotal to the development of the ethos of the team and further integration of the liaison psychiatry service with the acute and mental health trusts services.
Medical staffing includes one Foundation Doctor Year 1 (FY1), one FY2, and one ST4-6 psychiatry trainee. Clinical supervision of the trainees will be negotiated between the H&FLPS consultant psychiatrists depending on individual job plans and preferences.
Training within the team and for acute trust staff is a key priority for the service, especially in this phase of the pandemic after pre-covid training programs were interrupted. The post-holder will be expected to work with the consultants and psychologist in developing the teams training program. This is a strategic priority for both trusts, monitored at board level.
The service has an ethos of creating, developing and successfully completing strategically important service developments projects. The post-holder will have ample opportunities to be involved in such projects, particularly those related to out-of-hospital strategies.
The post-holder may be required to urgent provide cover for the Trusts other LPS teams.
