Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist – Richmond (RCDAS) - 8PAs - Permanent
The main duties of this post are providing addiction psychiatry consultant leadership to the Richmond Community Drug and Alcohol service. It is a new post, created following a restructure of the medical input to the service.
The Richmond Community Drug and Alcohol team has been run by SLaM, as lead provider in partnership with non-statutory organisations: We Are With You, St Mungo’s and Community Drug & Alcohol Recovery Services (CDARS) since April 2020 as part of the Richmond & Wandsworth Consortium. The contract is jointly commissioned across both London boroughs and is currently projected to run for 10 years in total.
Main duties of the job
RCDAS provides community substance use disorders (SUD) treatment for the residents of Richmond. It provides a full range (both clinical and recovery-oriented) personalised and evidence based treatments for the spectrum of SUDs including opiate substitution, alcohol detoxification and a community recovery programme (abstinent and non-abstinent). It offers comprehensive assessment, harm reduction, physical health and mental health interventions (in conjunction with local partners) as well as model-informed psychological interventions directed at substance misuse e.g. MI and relapse prevention.
The post holder will be expected to assess service users in person and remotely where appropriate. They will see patients at home or other venues where needed. They will also supervise the MDT to manage a wider group of patients. They will not work in a formal outpatient clinic structure but be expected to provide slots where the team can book patients in for review. The number of these will be negotiated with service manager.
The post holder will lead the clinical management of the service and provide many of the clinical interventions where needed. They will work closely with the Clinical Team Leader (lead nurse), Recovery Team leader and Psychologist in the local service. The post holder will join the Richmond & Wandsworth Consortium Senior Management Team.
