Applications are welcomed for a fixed term Consultant post in Neurology.

This is a full time (10 PA) Consultant Neurologist appointment for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Based at Lincoln County Hospital this new post will provide clinics at both Lincoln and Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and ward referrals respectively.

This post will be split with 3 days per week in Lincoln, 1 day per week at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and 1 day per week at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham for CPD and SPA activities.

Main duties of the job

The Neurology service is managed within the Trust wide Specialty Medicine Business Unit within the Medicine Division. The Business Unit is headed by a Clinical Director, supported by a General Manager, Business Manager and Service and Support Manger.

The funded Consultant establishment is 3.00 wte Consultants employed by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), supported by a further 0.6 wte Consultants, that visits from Sheffield.

The service is managed from Lincoln on a hub and spoke basis, providing outpatient and ward referral service to the three main hospital sites, Lincoln, Boston & Grantham.

The Department has a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Multiple Sclerosis and Epilepsy providing follow up care and support for MS and Epilepsy patients.

Qualifications and Certification
Essential

  • Full Registration with the GMC
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree, e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Higher research qualification
  • Specialist Registration in Neurology
  • CCT in Neurology or Equivalent (or be within 6/12 of achieving)

Clinical Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of wide experience and a high level of competence in Neurology

Desirable

  • Expertise in Botox Therapy
  • Special interest within Neurology

Management
Essential

  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgment when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives

Desirable

  • Management training or qualification
  • Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services
