An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellows (ST6 to post CCT) at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This posts is for a 12 month period and are due to become available in August 2022. We can offer senior clinical fellows experience in a range of areas including high risk pregnancy, maternal medicine, risk management and patient safety.

The successful candidate will contribute to the senior on-call rota hence competence on labour ward at senior level ( ST6+) is essential. There is opportunity to gain experience in the multiple pregnancy clinic, rainbow and preterm birth clinics, endocrine, haematology and cardiac antenatal clinics as well as be involved in perinatal mortality review meetings, undertake audits and develop guidelines. For fellows interested in risk management and patient safety we can offer dedicated time to work within the multi-disciplinary risk management team, supported by the risk lead consultant to undertake serious incident review and service improvement. This is an ideal post for O&G specialists (including post CCT) to build on their previous experience, gain further training in ATSMs of interest and get hands on experience of risk management.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited from an enthusiastic and committed doctor for the above post. The post holder will work within the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology both in University hospital of Wales and University hospital Llandough, supported by the friendly consultant team, according to individual specialist interest and need, they will be able to gain experience in high-risk pregnancy, maternal medicine or clinical risk management and patient safety. The post holder will be given dedicated time around on-call duties to further their clinical experience or work within the risk management team to develop skills and understanding of risk processes in obstetrics, with facilitated shadowing of the patient safety team. They will be trained to undertake root cause analyses., The post holder will be expected to participate in audit and join in the educational programme of the unit in addition to participating in the on call rota (3rd on call, EWTD compliant).

This is an ideal post for O&G specialists (including post CCT) to build on their previous experience, gain further training in an ATSM of interest and get hands on experience of risk management.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Full current GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • MB BS or recognised equivalent
  • Membership of a Medical Defence Organisation

Previous Experience

  • Experience of working at ST6 or above within the United Kingdom
  • Information technology skills
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • Experience of small and large group teaching
