The post would also be suitable for those wishing to take time out of programme (OOPE), although this must be discussed in detail with relevant current training programme directors. Suitable candidates would have the opportunity to progress to higher degrees if required.

Main duties of the job

We are delighted to offer this post at Morriston Hospital Emergency Department, with the opportunity to work in the Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research.

These posts are aimed at strengthening the links between Emergency Medicine and research. It is intended that these posts in the South Wales region will provide an excellent learning opportunity and will enhance individuals CV's which will attract high calibre candidates.

Job description
Job responsibilities

The post holder will participate in a full shift 24/7 rota of more experienced doctors who provide support to the junior grade at Morriston ED, and as such you should be experienced to ST3-4 competency level

You will be clinically responsible for the diagnosis, supervision and management of patients attending the ED.

Provide initial treatment and assessment of adult and paediatric patients presenting with illness or injury and where necessary arranging for patients to be reviewed or admitted by medical staff from other specialties.

On exceptional occasions, be responsible for such irregular commitments outside normal hours as are essential for continuity of patient care.

The appointment is subject to the national medical and dental terms and conditions of service.

The post will be remunerated on the NHS MN37 payscale which attracts 1A 50% banding.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • MB BS or recognised equivalent
  • GMC Reg with license to practice
  • 36 months postgraduate experience including 12 months emergency medicine OR evidence of ST3 EM Competencies

Desirable

  • Intercalated BSC
  • Provider status in ALS/ATLS/EPLS

Experience
Essential

 

  • Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Up to date with current practices in Emergency Medicine
  • Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit

Desirable

  • Liaison with other agencies
  • Experience of participation in Quality Improvement
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS working practices and systems

Skills & Abilities
Essential

  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
  • Basic understanding of research methodology and demonstrates evidence of ability to learn
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate
  • Experience of the assessment & immediate management of emergency presentations
