CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOW POST IN ACUTE STROKE AND REHAB MEDICINE

 

Salary £34,901 to £54,879 per annum (40 hours)

 

This post does not include the additional banding supplement

 

Applications are invited from trainee doctors having recently completed or about to finish either UK Foundation Programmes or Core Medical Training to apply for the position of Clinical Development Fellow (CDF) in Internal Medicine - Stroke (CDF).

 

This exciting post offer working in the Acute Stroke Unit at Raigmore Hospital.  In addition the successful candidate will have 6 hours per week of development time and 2 hours of in-house training.

 

The Stroke and Rehab service is an onsite 16-bedded Combined Stroke Unit sharing a ward with 14 Care of the Elderly beds. We care for patients in acute and rehabilitation phases of stroke medicine. There is an additional 12-bedded Rehabilitation Stroke Unit in Ward 2 Royal Northern Infirmary – Inverness, which provides focused neurorehabilitation for select patients. We also have access to community hospitals locally to advance patients discharge plan.

 

Patients with suspected stroke or TIA are admitted through the Emergency Department and/or Acute Assessment Unit. We look after adult patients of all ages with stroke. Suspected stroke patients are triaged by a stroke consultant in these areas for admission. The stroke team also offers in reach assessment to all other areas of the hospital. The successful applicant will be given opportunity to accompany the consultant in acute stroke assessment, and to work supervised in these areas.

 

Multiple TIA clinics operate across the week, fully supported by radiology and cardiac physiology. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to accompany the consultant in clinic.

 

Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and have completed the UK foundation program or equivalent.

 

Hyperacute assessment and thrombolytic therapy is provided by the HDU consultants on-site during office hours Monday to Friday, with stroke in reach from the stroke team. Out with these times and at weekends, this service is provided by a telemedicine service in conjunction with NHS Grampian.

 

Within the next year we expect that the mechanical thrombectomy service will be up and running with Raigmore as a spoke site for Ninewells Hospital, where thrombectomy is undertaken. The challenge of setting up this new service will offer opportunities in quality improvement projects.
