Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Urology with a sub-specialty interest in Prostate Cancer Robotic Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will work together with other members of the prostate cancer team at CUH to provide comprehensive prostate cancer care including Robotic Radical Prostatectomy.

The candidate will develop and contribute to the Prostate Cancer Service within the Urology Area Network with West Suffolk Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The out-of-hours responsibilities, include the participation in the Consultant on-call rota (1 in 15).

Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD, and the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

The candidate will accept personal accountability for their own clinical practice and will work at all times within the GMC’s Good Medical Practice and Leadership and Management for all doctors.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Urology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Department of Urology at CUH has considerably expanded over the past 15 years and the successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 18 Consultant Urologists supported by 8 Middle Grade Doctors and 10 Specialist Nurses.

The department provides comprehensive care for a wide range of benign and malignant conditions.
