Successful applicants will:

  • Provide clinical and managerial leadership and have overall responsibility for the outcomes, quality of services and patient experience of their integrated care pathway.
  • Create a clear view of the improvements needed in their area of expertise to improve the outcomes and patient experience for patients with Cancer.
  • Actively participate in designing change to improve the cancer waiting times standards across the region
  • Drive operational performance in each part of the pathway, working with key forums such as the Pathology and Imaging network to address pathway delays and support pathway design
  • Have responsibility for supporting the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan and annual operational planning guidance including leading bespoke pieces of work relevant to the tumour pathway.
  • Support and provide on-going encouragement, progress reviews and guidance to the pathway board and their programmes of work. To bring to the attention of the Medical Director if there are issues of concern.
  • Support the Senior Responsible officer and GMC core team in providing clinical and managerial leadership for the delivery of the key outcomes outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan and annual operating planning guidance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will report to the Senior Responsible Officer of GM Cancer. The appointment will be for 3 years and subject to a satisfactory robust annual review. This will be remunerated at 3 PA for a 1-year period in the first instance with the expectation that this is extended for the duration of the 3-year term. The funding of the role will be split as follows: 2.5 PAs funded by Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, 0.5 PA funded by the individual's contract holding trust.

  • Shows an awareness of the wider strategic issues affecting health care delivery in the NHS, especially in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire - thorough knowledge of national and local factors that may affect cancer care
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for working collaboratively with other organisations, including trusts and primary care with users

Desirable

 

  • Has held a senior clinical leadership/managerial position within Greater Manchester and East Cheshire's NHS where there has been demonstrable excellence in the monitoring and performance of cancer care
  • Has developed plans for service changes and improvements across multiple organisations

Skills and capabilities
Essential

 

  • Is capable of leading a multidisciplinary team of clinicians (doctors, nurses and associated healthcare workers) within a complex organisational network, across provider trusts and into primary care
  • Is able to confidently chair a Greater Manchester and East Cheshire-wide speciality group, collating validated minutes and ensuring appropriate engagement, discussion and attendance
  • Is able to influence others to develop a shared vision
