Main duties of the job

This position offers an attractive varied timetable with a potential for development of personal skills.

There are just over 2000 deliveries per annum in the department. Apart from very premature babies and those requiring immediate surgical procedures, most other conditions are kept within Hereford. There is a dedicated Labour Ward Theatre and 24 hour epidural service. In 2009 the Caesarean section rate was 29% and the assisted vaginal delivery rate was 9%.

Approximately 1800 gynaecological procedures are performed each year. These include abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies and hysteroscopic procedures including resections and ablations. Antenatal and gynaecological out patients are seen in the Women's Health Unit. There are specific clinics for colposcopy, endometrial assessment, fertility, Social Gynaecology, Out Patient hysteroscopies and other minor procedures. There are Peripheral Clinics held at Leominster, Ross, Ledbury and Powys. The middle grades are expected to attend some of these clinics. An early pregnancy assessment unit runs every weekday. Specialty doctors are encouraged to develop their skills in abdominal and vaginal scanning, colposcopy towards BSCCP accreditation or Urodynamics.
