Applications are invited for ONE whole-time consultant in Stroke.

This is a replacement post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS staff of the Department of Stroke Medicine.

Main duties of the job

• Participation in the 12-week rota for Stroke Consultant staff includes:
• Responsibility for 8 hyper-acute stroke beds on Ward 25 - HASU, working in ED and other parts of the hospital to manage acute stroke presentations
• Management of patients on the acute stroke unit (W25/W26)
• Responsibility for approximately 15 stroke rehabilitation beds at the Leicester General Hospital site (W3)
• Outpatient Clinics at Leicester General Hospital (OPD)
• Rapid-access one-stop TIA clinics (TIA)
• Multidisciplinary team-working to include case conferences
• Support to the early supported-discharge service for Stroke (ESDS)
• Stroke specialist input to implantable-device MDTs (PFO closure and LAA occlusion)
• Participation in the on-call stroke rota (1:8) with prospective cover including 1:8 weekends (factored into job plan)
• Opportunity to develop sub-speciality or parent-specialty interest
• Supervise and train junior medical staff and allied health professionals
• Teaching and administration
• To be involved in audit (including SSNAP) and clinical governance activities of the unit (to lead at least one departmental audit per year)
• Develop the stroke service along with the other Consultants at UHL
