Job Details

Yeovil Hospital Healthcare

We are looking for a Cardiologist to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a replacement post for a retiring general Cardiologist. It would suit someone with broad general Cardiology skills and experience, yet also wishing to develop a subspecialty, and for whom work life balance is important.

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, and within easy reach of the Jurassic Coast and beaches. From Yeovil, access is good to London, the south coast, the South West, Bath and Bristol.

The successful applicant will join a team of three Consultants and an Associate Specialist, ably supported by an excellent, established multidisciplinary team. The Trust is soon to merge with Taunton and Somerset Trust (planned for 2023), bringing the number of Consultant Cardiologists to 20, and the merged departments will provide Cardiology care to all of Somerset (and some of north Dorset and Wiltshire).

Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (YDH) is a modern hospital surrounded by stunning countryside with good transport links to cities such as Bath, Bristol, Exeter, is just over two hours from London, with a 40-minute drive to the coast.

As an ambitious Trust with a friendly, family feel, Yeovil Hospital aims to be a fundamental part of a vibrant, sustainable and collaborative healthcare community; patients’ first choice for acute health care, founded on a reputation of quality, safety and compassion. Running a highly-successful quality improvement initiative, the trust looks to drive innovation with patient-centred thinking.

YDH has 320 beds and provides acute care, including maternity services, for a growing population of approximately 200,000, mostly in South Somerset, North and West Dorset, and parts of Mendip. The Trust has a private patients’ facility, the Kingston Wing, which offers a personal service in state-of-the-art clinical facilities, with all profits being invested back into NHS healthcare.

Our successful nurse recruitment campaigns, both in the UK and overseas, have put us in a strong position to provide excellent care for our patients and our active Research and Development department is involved in a wide range of local, national and international research studies, with record numbers of patients recruited onto trials this year.

The Trust provides outpatient and inpatient consultant services for a range of specialisms including general medicine, cardiology, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, trauma and paediatrics.

As an accredited Trauma Unit, YDH’s Emergency Department provides varied and interesting clinical challenges with a reputation for consistently performing well against the four-hour wait target. The ED team saw more than 50,000 patients through their doors last year and the hospital performed 122,281 radiology tests, held 197,631 outpatient appointments and assisted in 1,463 babies being born.

Yeovil Hospital’s iCARE model, which has established the principles of exemplary patient care, patient and employee experience, has attracted national interest and is embedded in everything we do, following our vision to care for our patients as if they are one of our family.
