An amazing opportunity has arisen for the right people to join our Trust within Medicine for Older People. Our in-patent services are run across 3 sites by a dynamic team who are responsive and proactive to our speciality requirements. You will be employed by NWAFT and join our existing team of 8 Consultants who currently work across the three hospitals in the trust.
Main duties of the job
o Maintenance and development of Medicine for Older People services within the Trust to the highest standard.
o To share with multidisciplinary colleagues the responsibility of delivering high quality care in Geriatric Medicine in community and inpatient settings.
o Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses and other professionals allied to medicine.
o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
o To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME) and commitment to revalidation.

The appointment is for a total of 10 PAs. This includes 8.5 clinical programmed activities (CPA) and 1.5 SPA (supporting programmed activities) sessions. SPAs will include audit and clinical governance, teaching, appraisals, revalidation, CPD and research. Clinical sessions will be ward rounds, sub-specialty work and clinical admin plus communication with carers. A sample job plan is below. There is room for flexibility in how the successful candidate may want to work.

- MB ChB/MBBS or quivalent
- MRCP
- CCT in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent (CESR or European Community rights) or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview or on the Specialist Register
- Extensive training and experience in General Internal Medicine as well as Geriatric Medicine
- Ability to communicate with other members/grades of staff, patients, families and General Practitioners.
- Commitment to multidisciplinary work
- Evidence of involvement in service developments/planning
- Knowledge of corporate structure of NHS Trusts, the NHS Plan and clinical governance
- Full registration and license to practice with the GMC.
- Successful health screening.
- Demonstrates honesty, commitment and integrity
- Higher qualification (e.g. MD, PhD)
- CCT in GIM (general internal medicine) or equivalent or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) or on the Specialist Register is desirable but not essential
- Evidence of ability to pursue independent research
- Specific training in communication skills, teaching etc
- Evidence of successful implementation of new working patterns/methods
- Evidence of specific training in management (e.g. courses, practical experience)
