Are you highly motivated with a passion for clinical care, team-working, excellent inter-personal skills, and an interest in multidisciplinary work?  If so, we would like to invite you to consider working in the salaried practice of Yell, the second most northerly island in the UK. You will be working alongside an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to deliver daytime GMS work. The role currently provides out of hours care to Yell population of 1000, including cover for the smaller, neighbouring island of Fetlar, although it is intended that over time the OOH work will be shared with the ANP postholder.  The posts have study leave allocation to allow you to acquire and maintain skills to support your practice and your interests.  Teaching, research and development of other areas of your portfolio work would be supported and encouraged. The practice website gives more information: http://www.yellhealthcentre.co.uk/

Systems to support you include EMIS PCS and DOCMAN and a car is provided for the use of the GP.  The team in the health centre is friendly, welcoming and supportive; they meet as a practice for coffee and biscuits (and occasional homebakes) at 11am and all staff are encouraged to join. Support staff include a full time practice manager, three part time reception staff; clinical colleagues include two full time District (Community) nurses, 30 hours Practice nursing, and 15 hours Health care support worker.  There are twice weekly clinical huddles with the nursing team.

There is a weekly touchpoint meeting with other GPs from the smaller island practices, and a shared messaging group for advice and support.  We are developing an islands clinical meeting for Shetland for peer support and to share clinical learning. The practice provides their own Out of Hours cover and pre-hospital emergency care training (BASICS) would be provided for successful candidates.

Yell has some of the most beautiful beaches in Shetland; due to its clear waters and relatively quiet coastline the chance of seeing otters is excellent and orcas are not uncommon in Yell Sound through the summer.  There is also a leisure centre with swimming pool, schools, several shops and a busy local community.   Shetland offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, great leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery, whilst still only a short flight away from the UK mainland.
