Job Details

The 2 Gender Prescribing Clinicians will take responsibility for the delivery of the service by the Local Gender Team (LGT), liaising with the national service and the network of local GP practices participating in the Direct Enhanced Service (DES).

The LGT will receive patients from the national service, and will stabilise medication before arranging a managed transfer to the GP providing the DES and signposting to support services.

The Gender Prescribing Lead Clinician will provide the patient's GP with clear written guidance on prescribing and monitoring be available to provide additional information on request and answer questions regarding treatment and monitoring at reasonable notice.

This post is for 1 day a week.

Main duties of the job

To provide consultation and appropriate clinical management of patients attending the local gender team.

To establish patients full history, including completion of a mental health assessment.

Personal clinical research will be encouraged in addition to participating in current programmes.

The Gender Clinical Lead Clinician will be responsible for undertaking administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the service.

Following on from developments across Wales, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has developed a Local Gender Prescribing Team as a component of the Wales Gender Identity Service.

The Gender Prescribing Lead Clinician will take responsibility for the delivery of the service by the Local Gender Team (LGT), liaising with the national service and the network of local GP practices participating in the Direct Enhanced Service (DES).

The LGT will receive patients from the national service, and stabilise medication before arranging a managed transfer to the GP providing the LES. The Team will also signpost to appropriate support services.

The Gender Prescribing Lead Clinician will provide the patients GP with clear written guidance on prescribing and monitoring and will be available to provide additional information on request and answer questions regarding treatment and monitoring at reasonable notice.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults and childrens barred list check

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
