Locum Diabetes Consultant
The Leeds Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology is seeking to appoint 2 x Locum Consultant Diabetologists. The posts will be 10 PA appointments. The initial appointment will be for 6 months.

The Trust is closely linked with the University of Leeds and undertakes both undergraduate medical teaching and postgraduate studies.
The Diabetes service is part of the Diabetes Leeds partnership which provides high quality care for people living with diabetes within Leeds. Our Diabetes Centre is at the St James's University Hospital site and; the diabetes service also has a developing outreach service within Leeds Community Healthcare. The diabetes and endocrinology team also contribute to the care in-patients on one medical ward.
These 2 posts will each deliver 10 PAs supporting the Diabetes team. The post-holder will form part of a rota delivering out-patient diabetes clinics for 8 weeks and ward work for 1 week in every 9 week cycle.
During the "off" ward period the post holder will concentrate on Diabetes outpatient services without clinical responsibility for general medical wards. The focus area includes general diabetes, advanced T1DM clinic/Technology Clinic, diabetes foot and pregnancy related diabetes.
During the weeks on ward the post holder will spend an estimated 6.5 PAs a week on the ward and 2 PAs providing advice and guidance (A&G) and attending diabetes MDT. There will be an addition to 1.5 SPAs.
The successful candidates will join an enthusiastic and supportive Diabetes Multi-Disciplinary team with 5 consultant colleagues, 2 GP's with Specialist Interest, specialist registrars in diabetes and endocrinology, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Specialist Dietitians, Specialist Podiatrists and pharmacy colleagues. The posts will be based at St James's University Hospital, and will be predominantly clinical with responsibility as a member of consultant team for providing inpatient and outpatient care for people living with Diabetes. Consultant mentoring will be offered.
The successful applicants should hold accreditation in Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.
