We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a rotation scheme for 12 months as a Foundation Year Two equivalent doctor

Main duties of the job

The post is on a 12 month fixed term basis rotating every four months through Psychiatry at RDaSH, GP surgery at Parkgate Surgery and Elderly Medicine at Rotherham Hospital. You will be part of the team of FY2 trainees within these areas working towards completing your competencies.

Psychiatry at RDaSH

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) operates services in 200 locations across Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire.

Our Trust headquarters, Woodfield House, is based on the Tickhill Road Hospital site in Balby, Doncaster.

We employ over 3,700 staff and have more than 200 committed volunteers.

The Trust has diversified from mental health and learning disability services to include community services, such as district nursing and health visitors, and around 115,000 people now access our services each year.

Parkgate Surgery

Parkgate Medical Centre is a three partner practice. The practice has a list size of approximately 6200 over two sites.

Dr Anand Barmade is the senior partner. Dr Anand Barmade is the Medical student tutor, F2 supervisor & GP Trainer and works 8 sessions in the practice. Dr Suganya Ravi works 6 sessions and has a special interest in Gynaecology. Dr Maria works 5 sessions and is the mentor for the medical students. We are also undertaking the VTS Nurse programme.

The partnership is a PMS practice working from two sites, the main site is a purpose built surgery in the Parkgate area of Rotherham, the branch site is also purpose built and is in the Thorogate area of Rotherham. The main site has undergone an extensive rebuilding extension since it was opened and has dedicated consulting rooms for each doctor including the GP Registrar, and nurses as well as a treatment room and library/meeting room. The branch site was built in 1999 and in addition to consulting rooms for doctors and nurses also houses a Pharmacy.

The practice is fully computerised using SystmOne GP software. The practice area covers the immediate areas of Parkgate, Rawmarsh, Kilnhurst, Thorogate and Swinton.

The surgery is open daily Monday to Friday. We offer telephone consultation appointments and face to face appointments at the discretion of the GPs. The surgeries are open each morning and a duty doctor is available for urgent consultations. The practice uses 111 service for it's out of hours work.

The practice offers a number of other services via referral.

Elderly Medicine

Integrated Medicine Division

The Division of Medicine is home to 12 Clinical Support Units, including acute medicine, gastroenterology, stroke and cardiology. The division has >200 beds and 530 staff, within the acute division.

The Post

Areas of work will include support for medical inpatients, liaison with ED, collaboration with social, psychiatric and discharge teams as well as developing relationships with community providers and general practitioners in the locality. MDT working is thoroughly encouraged and expected as part of this role.

We will also support you to attend relevant congresses/conferences and obtain journal, poster or guideline publication.

Where it will be helpful we will facilitate your attendance at relevant training courses.

Key Duties

Review of acute medical patients.

Assistance and supervision of the F1 doctors with the management of patients (where relevant, depending on experience).

Strengthening the delivery of a, high quality, service across the hospital and community.

Developing further links between these service areas and support services across the Trust

Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality patient centred care.

Participate in teaching and training

Quality assurance of the service and individual practice

Work collaboratively with consultants, doctors in training, nursing and allied health professional teams to help shape the future of their specialities.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
  • Current ALS certificate

  • MRCP Part 1

Experience
Essential

  • At least 12 months experience as a doctor working in a UK Healthcare setting

Desirable

  • Experience in relevant related specialties

Research and Audit

  • Understanding of principles of medical audit and undertaken audit projects
  • Understanding of the concept of research
  • Understanding of research governance and ethics

  • Relevant research published in peer review journal
