Job Details

This is a full time post and we seek a colleague who can demonstrate their ability to work as part of our efficient and cohesive multidisciplinary teamand interact well with consultant colleagues, local GPs and dentists. There is no on-call commitment attached to this job.

The department is based within the Surgical Division, which comprises the Departments of: ENT, Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and Ophthalmology. The Trust has a team providing orthodontics, oralsurgery, restorative and special care dentistry as part of dental and surgical MDT care. Clinical support staff including nursing and administration staff numbers are in place to support this post.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will build and utilise governance links beyond the organization, for example Worcester Acute Maxillo-Facial Dept and OralSurgery at Birmingham Dental Hospital to ensure high quality care is provided to patients and will collaborate with and support the provision of oral surgery in primary care.

The appointee will join the Dental Specialties Team as a Consultant Oral Surgeon, and will be responsible for the care of the oral surgery patients. The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial dutiesassociated with the care of their patients and the running of the department and will be expected to participate in all facets of departmental activity.

Job responsibilities

Proposed Job planConsultant job planning is an inclusive process with all sessions allocated to meet service demand and patient care. Sessions are not allocated in a preferential manner; i.e. newly appointed consultants are not allocatedless favourable sessions by default.

The job plan will include 2 programmed activity (PA) for personal supporting professional activities (SPA) and additional SPA time in the job plan to fulfil additional roles relevant to the post holder. It is recognised that the work programme for any consultant taking up the post will take time to settle into a regular pattern and alterations will need to be made. Therefore, the job plan, including the integral work programme will bereviewed and if required amendments made after discussion and agreement.

Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
Essential

  • Entry on GDC Oral Surgery specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights
  • NHS Performer number or eligible for entry to the NHS performers list
  • Full GDC registration with a licence to practise.

Desirable

  • FDS (Oral Surgery) or equivalent
  • Membership in Oral Surgery (MOralSurg) or equivalent
  • Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) or equivalent

Clinical Experiance
Essential

 

  • Broad range of experience General and Paediatric Oral Surgery including chronic facial pain
  • Training and experience in use of Sedation as part of oral surgery clinical practice.

Desirable

 

  • Experience in diagnostic and practical restorative dentistry
  • Demonstrable Sub Specialty interest e.g. management of medically compromised patient, special care, chronic facial pain

Clinical Skills
Essential

 

  • Demonstrable skills and experience of Oral Surgery at level suitable of consultant level post CCST
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
