Position Profile: The successful applicant will be required to be part of a multidisciplinary team providing specialist Neonatology services in the Neonatology Directorate located at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) treats children from around Western Australia, and is committed to programs that promote lifelong health in children and adolescents. CAHS is made up of Neonatology, Community Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Perth Children’s Hospital.
CAHS Neonatology provides state-wide neonatal services to the sickest newborns in Western Australia. The neonatology department compromises units based at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS WA). This position is primarily for the KEMH unit.
- KEMH neonatal unit is located in Subiaco. This is the largest tertiary perinatal unit in the Australia and New Zealand Neonatal Network (ANZNN), admitting over 3000 neonates per year, 120 of whom are <28 weeks gestation. All complex pregnancies within Western Australia are managed by feto-maternal medicine specialists at KEMH. Our department has an outstanding track record in managing extremely preterm neonates, with short- and long-term clinical outcomes among the best within the ANZNN. In addition, we are leaders in clinical research nationally and internationally, with our unit previously designated a Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). We are closely affiliated with the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Telethon Kids Institute (TKI.)
- PCH neonatal unit is located on the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre site in Nedlands and is the sole tertiary surgical NICU in Western Australia.
- NETS WA is the state-wide newborn transport service, based at PCH.
