This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Haematology Consultants to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity within the Haematology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The appointee will be part of a team of five consultants to plan, develop and provide haematology services for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The post-holder will participate in the on call rota which is 1 in 5.The post will be based at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage with, out-reach clinics at other sites (QEII at Welwyn Garden city or Hertford county Hospital).

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, forward thinking consultant to provide haematology services for the changing hospital environment.

  • To provide care and support of haematology in-patients at the Lister hospital in conjunction with other members of the haematology team
  • To provide an advisory service for haematology problems arising in non- haematology in-patients
  • To participate in authorisation of haematology laboratory results including examination and reporting of abnormal blood films as well as performing Bone Marrow biopsies

Vaccination as a Condition of Deployment (VCOD) for Healthcare Workers

Candidates offered a role with East and North Herts NHS Trust, who are aged 18 and over and who will have direct, face to face contact with service users as part of their role will be required to evidence that they have received a complete course of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, subject to limited exceptions, by no later than 1 April 2022. This will include front-line workers, as well as non-clinical workers not directly involved in patient care

Eligibility
Essential

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register

Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification
  • FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • Postgraduate academic degree

Clinical Expertise in Speciality/Subspeciality
Essential

  • Broad range of experience in in particular:
    • Interest in Red Cell Disorders
    • Fully competent in clinical and laboratory haematology

Clinical Governance
Essential

  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Teaching
Essential

  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to teach clinical skills

Research
Essential

  • Participation in research
  • Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals

Fitness to Practice
Essential

  • Up to date and fit to practice safely and aware of own training needs
  • Evidences engagement with appraisal and revalidation

Health Status
Essential

  • Ability to provide evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination status or evidence of formal medical exemption through the NHS COVID Pass process
