This post is for a Consultant Neonatologist to complete a team of 5 WTE consultants to delivery Neonatal care in a local Neonatal unit (Level 2 Unit).
The neonatal unit is a local neonatal unit (previously level II) and is part of the NW London neonatal Network. The hospital has around 5,000 deliveries per year. There are 28 cot spaces of which 5 are funded for intensive care. The unit cares for all babies born at >=27weeks gestation and has around 1200 intensive care days per year. Nitric oxide, active cooling and cardiac echo are available on site. The post is a supporting post. Main duties of the job
The candidate will be required to provide a comprehensive service covering all aspects of the specialty and will be expected to collaborate with the lead clinician in the management and development of the neonatal service. Previous experience in hospital management would be a benefit.
A 10 PA profile would cover the following duties:
The 5 consultants follow a cycle of attending or non-attending which can be variable. Attending blocks will be 2 weeks each of NICU attending followed by 2 weeks non-attending then 2 weeks of SCBU attending. The attending Consultant will be responsible for the clinical management during this time and will lead/supervise ward rounds and clinical and unit management meetings. Attending weeks will be classed at DCC (11.25 for NICU plus on call and 11.25 for SCBU plus on-call)
During non-attending weeks, time will be devoted to outpatient work, clerical/administrative work, teaching, research, educational supervisor roles, audit and other management tasks. Annual and Study leave is taken in non-attending weeks. The 2 non-attending blocks each of 2 weeks allow for a 6PA week almost entirely for supporting PAs. Time taken as absent will be in discussion with the other consultants to ensure that a full service is available daily throughout the year.
The full rota will equate to 28PA for direct clinical care and 12 for supporting PAs over a 4 week cycle.
