An exciting vacancy has arisen for a salaried GP, working as part of the Prison Healthcare multi disciplinary team within HMP Perth.  Prison Healthcare is a hosted service of Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership.  Prison Healthcare is responsible for the delivery of healthcare to HMP Perth, HMP Castle Huntly and the soon to be opened Bella Centre, female Community Custody Unit.

The multidisciplinary team work across the three sites, having a designated Health Centre in each location, the team comprises administration, pharmacy, primary care, mental health, substance use and an enhanced addictions team who promote patient recovery and self management of conditions.  There are salaried GPs covering HMP Perth with a slightly different community in-reach model for the other establishments. HMP Perth has around 650 prisoners with an annual turnover of 3000 per year; it is a maximum security establishment, with remand, short and long term prisoners.  The patient population within HMP Perth have complex health needs, physically and mentally.  As people are living longer with multiple health issues, there are a number of patients with multi morbities who require a different approach to their care.  The service believes that a stance of pro-active engagement is required to ensure that people are enabled to achieve maximum levels of mental and physical well being, social inclusion and participation no matter of their environment.
