This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic & keen doctor, with an interested in General Medicine to provide holistic care. The post holder will provide middle grade support the General (Internal) Medicine Consultant. There will also be a junior team to support the Consultant/Middle Grade.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will initially be responsible as part of the team for managing the General Medicine patients in the front end of the hospital (spread between three wards now but likely to be two wards in the future). It's anticipated that the General Medicine team will expand in the future, with patients being directly defined to the team.

Royal Glamorgan Hospital operates a ward-based speciality definition in Medicine, with agreed definition criteria from each speciality. The speciality services in Royal Glamorgan with inpatient beds are Acute Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrine and Gastroenterology. Rheumatology, Neurology, Nephrology & Haematology don't have defined inpatients but provide a specialist opinion and in reach service.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to participate in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Boards risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the Clinical Service Group and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Adherence to Caldicot Principles is mandatory. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Boards Commissioner and NHS priorities.

Teaching /Research Experience
Essential
  • Experience of supervising Foundation Trainees & Nursing Colleagues
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
Desirable
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • Publications in peer reviewed journal
Education/ Qualifications and training
Essential
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Registration with GMC
  • Experience of working in Medicine in NHS
Desirable
  • Possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
Clinical Experience
Essential
  • Experience in General Internal Medicine
  • Experience of participating in MDT working
  • Ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team including junior doctors and therapists
Desirable
  • Experience in General Internal Medicine in a middle grade/senior clinical role.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Management and administrative experience
Essential
  • Ability to organise and manage care of patients within both Acute unit and outpatient areas
  • Experience of audit
Desirable
  • Experience of working with Allied Health Professionals such as Physicians Associates
