Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who is looking to progress through the CESR route or to a Specialist post in Respiratory medicine. The department is committed to supporting the successful candidate with either route they decide to pursue. This is an opportunity to join an ambitious and forward-looking team. The post is full time (10 sessions), fixed term post as a Specialty Doctor. It is anticipated the successful candidate with support the development of pleural services including ambulatory pneumothorax pathway, indwelling drains and potentially help to establish a thoracoscopy service. It is anticipated the candidate will support the cancer service development as we strive to make Northampton General hospital a cancer centre of excellence. The post holder will be supported by a newly recruited physician associate in pleural disease, and it is anticipated further pleural nurses will be employed in the near future subject to a current business case.
The post holder will be supported by the current substantive consultants.
Main duties of the job
Principle elements of the post
- Supervise and train junior medical staff including being Educational and or Clinical Supervisor
- Supervise specialist nurses / physician associates and other respiratory trainees in pleural procedures
- Assessing and appraising juniors
- Continue to develop subspecialty interest of choice
- Undertake outpatient clinics
- Undertake pleural procedure and bronchoscopy / EBUS sessions
- Involved in Care-flow (Internal referral systems from other specialties) o Attend lung cancer MDT sessions
- Being part of and contribute to the Mortality and Morbidity meeting
- Undertake respiratory outpatients
- Contribute to sessions on Becket ward (respiratory ward)

We are currently undergoing significant expansion of the footprint of both our chest clinic and gaining a Level 1 Respiratory Support unit which allows us to develop the service in a very positive way to fulfil the needs of our patients. Job responsibilities
The appointed candidate will be able to work independently under direct and indirect supervision as required, and to support the existing respiratory team to provide general respiratory services to Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This includes carrying out outpatient clinics, supporting trainee doctors in the department and nursing staff and seeing patients on the ward. There is no commitment to the on-call general medical services.

Support for the Role
You will be provided with secretarial support and computing facilities to be able to access all the information technology required for your role. We have online dictation, prescribing, discharge summaries, clinic letters, investigation requests and results and radiology.
