Department of Paediatrics, Western University, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry

The Department of Paediatrics, Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is seeking two Academic Paediatricians to join our established Division of General Academic Paediatrics. The Division is composed of the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), which provides a comprehensive in-patient service to a population of about 1.5 million in southwestern Ontario, as well as an expanding range of ambulatory clinics.  As the hub of a rapidly expanding tertiary children’s hospital, the CTU provides acute care for children with a wide variety of general paediatric conditions, including admissions locally from the Emergency Department, transfers from other hospitals within the region, as well as from the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units.  In addition, children with complex care needs are cared for by a dedicated team composed of select CTU paediatricians, nurse practitioners and other allied health staff. The Division works closely with our subspecialty colleagues in a collaborative manner, in both clinical and research endeavours.  The Division is central to the undergraduate and postgraduate training program at Western University, with key leadership positions in education currently being held by General Academic Paediatric faculty.

Western University delivers an academic experience second to none.  Western challenges the best and brightest faculty, staff and students to commit to the highest global standards.  Our research excellence expands knowledge and drives discovery with real-world application.  Western attracts individuals with a broad worldview, seeking to study, influence and lead in the international community.  Since 1878, The Western Experience has combined academic excellence with life-long opportunities for intellectual, social and cultural growth in order to better serve our communities.  Western is a research-intensive institution with a wide range of academic and professional programs (see to learn more).  Western’s Recruitment and Retention Office is available to assist in the transition of successful applicants and their families.

Candidates for this position must have an MD or equivalent degree and must be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario.  Subspecialty certification in Paediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required.  The successful candidates will be clinical academic paediatricians, and hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience at the time of appointment.  The successful candidates will have experience in the care of acutely ill children and will be expected to contribute to the CTU on call service, as well as ambulatory clinics. The successful candidates will have a keen interest in academic medicine, the ability to collaborate effectively with all other members of the health care team and office staff, and will be expected to participate in team-based health care and teaching, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The candidates will be committed to contributing to the academic deliverables of the division, including continuing medical education and research. Preference may be given to candidates with additional training and/or qualifications in the areas of complex care, patient safety and/or medical education.

Compensation for these positions will be primarily composed of an alternative funding plan and academic salary. The anticipated start date for the positions is September 1, 2022, although an alternate start date may be negotiated.

Effective September 7, 2021, all employees and visitors to campus are required to comply with Western’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.  Successful candidates will be also required to comply with the policies and protocols of the applicable affiliated institutions.
