Applications are invited for a whole-time or part time Consultants in Anaesthesia.
It is an exciting time to join our welcoming and friendly team of 34 Anaesthetic consultants based at the Leicester General Hospital. You will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on-call rota and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective, emergency and trauma surgery.
The University of Leicester NHS Trust is embarking on a major reconfiguration project over the next five years to enhance the quality of care we provide our patients, this presents an exciting opportunity to be part of the clinical leadership involved in the delivery of modern, efficient and well led services to the people of Leicester and the East Midlands.
Main duties of the job
The anaesthetic department at the Leicester General Hospital will provide support to the Obstetrics services, Gynaecological surgery, Peri operative Care (4-5 bedded HDU) services and the following surgical specialties, General and colorectal Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Robotic surgeries as well as Pain management, Sleep services, high risk assessment and perioperative clinics. The successful applicant will have opportunities, depending on clinical interest and experience, to work at either of the two other sites; Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield hospital, which support hepatobiliary, renal transplant, trauma, ENT and maxillofacial, cardiac, thoracic, paediatric and imaging services. There is also continued support for non-clinical professional activities both inside and outside the trust.
This post incorporates a non-resident on call 1:13 rota, providing Anaesthesia support for out of hours General duties, supervising a 2-tier junior doctor on call team. There is a possibility of resident weekend emergency work in lieu of on call, as our service is developing working towards a single site maternity unit and the recent changes to the junior doctor’s contract.
