Applications are invited for this substantive post developed to meet an evolving need for dedicated adolescent health services and to bolster an established eating disorder service for young people .

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team consisting of an Associate Specialist, Specialist Dieticians and colleagues from the local CAMHS teams to collectively provide specialist eating disorder services for young people and to provide additional specialist adolescent clinics. Some of these clinics are already established but there is also the exciting opportunity to lead on the development of other areas of adolescent health care to meet the needs of young people locally.

You should either be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of your expected CCT date at the time of interview.

The post is for 10 programmed activities which will be divided between the Acute Paediatric service and providing Adolescent Health and Eating disorder services. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the Acute Paediatric service including provision of acute ward service as the admitting consultant, acute shifts on the Childrens Assessment Unit, provision of safeguarding medicals and some General Paediatric out-patient work.

The Acute Paediatric team consists of 16 Consultant colleagues and so there is an on-call (non-resident) commitment of 1 in 16 and the applicant will be expected to contribute to evening work and safeguarding work flexibly. Our tertiary level services are provided by Bristol Childrens Hospital.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduates from the Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine, postgraduates in the clinical situation and to undertake audit and governance activity.

  • Expertise in the management of children with general paediatric problems including safeguarding paediatrics
