Do you want to work somewhere that has great beaches, a fantastic and varied food scene, world class wine regions, and a variety of exciting cultural events such as the largest fringe festival outside of Edinburgh? Then the NALHN Emergency Departments in Adelaide are for you!
Adelaide is considered the 3rd most liveable city in the world; this metropolitan environment gives you the space to enjoy the Mediterranean climate, with parks and outside activities like mountain biking, bush walking, swimming, paddle boarding and surfing a short drive away; allowing great work life balance! The city has modern art galleries and museums, a lively laneway bar and restaurant scene, multiple venues that attract touring musicians, theatre productions and musicals and of course a multitude of festivals.
The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) includes the Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH), Modbury Hospital (MH) and other services and supports a population of more than 400,000 people living primarily in Adelaide’s north and north eastern suburbs. The LMH ED sees 74,000 presentations per year of which around 25% are paediatric; LMH ED is undergoing a multi-milli
What about work? You’ll be on a 7 day, 38 hour (4 shifts) per week roster (full-time hours) made up of day, late and night shifts with the capacity to make roster requests to accommodate all that South Australia has to offer. There are senior ED doctors on every shift to supervise and educate, with consultants rostered from the morning through to midnight and senior ED registrars/medical practitioners overnight with consultants on call. We pride ourselves on having a friendly and inclusive team across medical, nursing, admin and allied health with social activities organised throughout the year. Across the ED’s we see a wide variety of cases, from neonates and paediatrics through to geriatrics, including trauma, toxicology and resuscitation cases which you will be involved with assessing and managing. Regular paid education is provided, including simulations (in our brand new ED sim lab at LMH) and other interactive sessions, all targeted to support your development as a doctor. Our positions are ideal for those who have completed Foundation years and are looking for a change of scenery and more experience in acute care prior to speciality training.
We offer our staff ability to do rotations between both hospitals so that you can experience the varied patient presentations as well as have the opportunity to work with a broader range of ED team members. As a network, the Emergency Departments can deliver both specialist training and certificate/diploma training programs set by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine; the certificate can be completed within 6 months. We are flexible with these rotations and we work with our doctors; so if you wanted to group shifts together so days off can be spent travelling and exploring locally or interstate then this can often be done! The LMH is less than 1 hour from the Barossa Valley wine region, which means you can finish your shift and still be at a beautiful winery with a great view for dinner.
NALHN offers great Professional Development opportunities and provides reimbursement for most training needs including courses such as ALS/ATLS. This will give you the opportunity to enhance your already found skills and develop them further either here in South Australia or interstate funded by the hospital.
To be eligible for this position you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.
