Consultant in Liver Transplantation & Organ Retrieval Surgery

We are looking for a passionate individual who is required to fill a Replacement post within the Transplantation & Hepatobiliary Surgery Department at the St James's University Hospital.
The Liver transplant programme in Leeds is well established and is the third largest liver transplant unit in the country. Leeds is leading nationally in Living Donor Liver Transplantation. Annually, the unit performs 130-140 adults and 20 paediatric liver transplants. The Transplant & Hepatobiliary unit in Leeds delivers over 1000 major procedures annually.
Applicants should have established skills in Liver Transplantation, Organ Retrieval and General Surgery. Experience in splitting livers for adults and paediatrics is highly desirable. Experience in paediatric liver transplantation is also desirable. There is a general surgery component to this job which will involve dealing with benign biliary disease and other aspects of general surgery. Also, the successful candidate is expected to provide cover for the National Organ Retrieval Service. Leeds Teaching Hospitals currently provides cover for Organ retrieval for 39 weeks annually. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable
The successful applicant should possess FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on:
'Establishing sustainable machine preservation / perfusion services in Liver transplant - List key challenges and ways to address those challenges'
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
