BHRUT ACADEMY OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE
RESUSCITATION CLINICAL FELLOW
The Academy of Emergency Medicine at BHRUT provides a structured training platform in order to develop Academy Emergency Department (ED) Resuscitation Fellows. The Academy faculty are Specialist Emergency Medicine consultants who provide educational and clinical supervision. The program is designed for Resuscitation Fellows to acquire competencies and skills in resuscitation at a level of a senior registrar. This will equip the Resuscitation Clinical Fellow with knowledge and skills to deliver optimal resuscitation to patients.
The academic component to the post is the Queen Mary University London's post graduate PGDipCert/ MSc program which is a remote learning degree over 3 years (2 years course work + 1 year dissertation). The Resuscitation Clinical Fellow's will work across 2 sites, King George and Queens Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
This post offers:
- A 2 year rotation in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care (1 year in each)
- Study leave allowance and expenses for Emergency Medicine Courses;
- Fortnightly teaching built into the rota for all doctors;
- Opportunities to participate in Research;
- Opportunity to gain skills and RCEM accreditation in Emergency Ultrasound;
- Education Development Time to attend on-line tutorials;
- Named Educational and Clinical supervisor;
- Participation in teaching and SIMMS training;
- 3 months of fully furnished accommodation ( for those relocating from >150 mile radius)
Selected courses offered by the Emergency Department include:
- ATLS, ALS, EPALS;
- Level 1 Core Emergency Ultrasound;
- US in Shock Course
We are looking for candidates who have:
- At least 18 months experience in an Emergency Department/ITU/Anaesthetics/Acute Medicine;
- Working at a middle grade level;
- Valid ALS courses
Desirable:
- MCEM/FCEM primary or equivalent;
- Research/ QIP experience
- US Level 1 accreditation
Successful Candidates will be expected to work at both Queens and the King George ED's.
These post consists of on average 40-48 hours per week. We offer 27 days of annual leave + additional bank holidays.
The training we provide includes resuscitation, Rapid Assessment and Treatment (RAFT) , acute medical, surgical, psychiatry, trauma and paediatric cases. The Intensive Care rotation will incorporate ICU competencies and skills.

Emergency Care at BHRUT is provided in its Emergency Departments (EDs) across two sites, Queen's Hospital Romford and King George Hospital Ilford. The departments see a broad spectrum of pathologies across both urban and rural settings. Combined patient numbers approach 250,000 and reach in excess of 170,000 type 1 patients per annum.
The present team of consultants have a keen interest in further developing the following areas of the department: Trauma, Resuscitation, Critical Care, Education, Ultrasound, Research, Intensive Care and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
We aim to deliver outstanding care for our patients and provide the best working environment for our staff. Out patient population is multicultural and diverse which results in a wide spectrum of disease and pathology. The Queens site is a Major Trauma Unit with regular trauma cases presenting to the ED.
