Applications are invited to apply for the position of Substantive Consultant in ENT. This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).The successful candidate will be an additional member of a dynamic team of three existing ENT consultant surgeons based at Bedford & two visiting ENT consultant surgeons from Luton & Dunstable.

Main duties of the job
The ENT department provides a general Rhinology, Laryngology, Otology and Diagnostic Head and Neck Service and is located in a dedicated area that also houses the Audiology service, which is provided by a committed team of technicians led by an Audiological scientist. There are a number of established specialist clinics including Neck Lump clinic, Joint Clinic, Voice clinic and Rhinology clinic. A specialist Otology Clinic and Balance service is being developed. There are regular Thyroid, Head & Neck and Joint OMF/ENT Xray MDT meetings.

This is a full time (10PA), substantive post and provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated clinician within a developing and growing service. The post is primarily based at Bedford Hospital with up to one day per week at Luton & Dunstable Hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with license to practice, and must be on Specialist Register.

Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS, MRCS, FRCS (ORL-NHS) or equivalent
- Completion of specialty training or within six months from date of AAC *candidates applying via GMC CESR (PMET B) must be on specialist registrar at time of application
Desirable
- Training in teaching ,e.g. PGCME, PGCert, Diploma in Med Ed
- MD, PhD or other higher degree
- Sub-specialty interest training and experience
Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent all round experience of DGH work
- Relevant clinical experience/expertise
Desirable
- Publications relevant to sub speciality
Management & Audit
Essential
- Able to lead the team, supported by other professionals.
- Understanding of principles of clinical audit and evidence based medicine.
