We are very excited to invite applications for a newly created post of Consultant Haematologist with an interest in Red Cell Disorders and Transfusion. This joint post with UCLH provides a fantastic opportunity for two large network haemoglobinopathy centres to develop and share expertise. The successful applicant will join a team of dynamic and friendly Consultants to provide a full range of Clinical Haematology services at
NMUH.

The team at NMUH has been offering direct support for patient management across parts of North Central London, especially Enfield and Barnet, for decades. NMUH has been recognised as one of the Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Teams (SHT). It is also part of the NCL HCC network.

Following a recent Care Quality Commission review and the All-Party Parliamentary group report, the red cell team, division and Trust have developed an extensive improvement plan supported by a dedicated improvement manager. This gives the post holder, a unique opportunity to help shape the service with exciting innovative changes and engage with patients and staff to become a centre of excellence, providing outstanding care. They will work closely with a second co-lead red cell consultant to achieve this - this second post is being current developed with a
view to being soon advertised.

The successful applicant will also take up the role of clinical lead for blood transfusion at NMUH and will be well supported by an experienced
Transfusion Practitioner in this position.

At UCLH, the post holder will take part in a weekly red cell MDT and will participate in a dedicated weekly Research Clinic at UCLH, focused on recruiting patients with red cell disorders from the regional haemoglobinopathy networks, into clinical trials based at UCLH and UCL. They will also take part in one other alternate weekly sub-speciality clinic, with some flexibility based on the candidate’s interest. They would take part in attending at UCLH for 6 weeks per year, which would also include being on-call during that time.
