Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
with Subspecialty interest in Musculoskeletal Tumour
Surgery
Applications are invited for the post of substantive Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with a special interest in musculoskeletal oncology at University Hospitals of Leicester. This post is a new post as a result of an expansion of the Musculoskeletal Tumour Service. It is on a similar footing to the established sarcoma surgeon within the department. Links with the Nottingham as part of the East Midlands Sarcoma Service are well established with a Leicester surgeon holding an honorary contract there for the past 14 years. There is agreement for an Honorary Contract at Nottingham University Hospitals. In addition, the post holder would contribute to the bone metastases service.
The post holder will also undertake some elective lower limb arthroplasty and participate in the Hip Fracture Service.
This is a substantive post and applicants should be on the GMC specialist. Applicants must have FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent and would have appropriate subspecialty fellowship training.
Main duties of the job Maintenance of the highest clinical standards and highest quality care in the management of patients. To share with colleagues, responsibility for the day-to-day management of Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic patients. To promote and engage in new ways of working and coordinating care for Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic patients across the health community. Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences.
Supervise and train junior medical staff To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors. Teaching, research and administration. To proactively develop the service. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
