We are excited to be advertising for 2 consultant position in Care of the Elderly with a speciality interest of Frailty and Community - 10 PAs.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Elderly Care Consultants to join our friendly and enthusiastic team. The successful candidate will join other substantive Consultants in providing the highest quality care possible for older patients in Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

Walsall Healthcare is an integrated organisation aiming to meet patient needs by delivering services at the place of the patient's choice and with the provision of acute admission facilities. One aspect of this post will be to lead the Frailty and FES service both in hospital and the community. This new post has been established to support A&E/Medical Admissions and the Frail Elderly Pathway to assess the frail elderly patient presenting to the Manor Hospital.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  1. To have a responsibility to provide a high quality clinical care to patients in Elderly Care and General Internal Medicine services and to continuously update practice based on evidence based medicine and audit.
  2. To provide advice to colleagues in other specialties on elderly patients with problems.
  3. To provide a comprehensive Out-patient service for elderly medicine for frailty band comprehensive geriatric assessment.
  4. Proactively engage with the multi-disciplinary team within Intermediate Care Services offering specialist advice and support as required.
  5. To provide support to the Primary Care Team (Frail and Elderly Pathway) for the management of patients in the community and Nursing homes.
  6. To support teaching and training of nurses, junior medical staff, medical students and to contribute to postgraduate medical education in general
  7. To undertake educational/clinical supervisor duties for junior doctors
  8. To support and encourage audit and research
  9. To actively participate in CPD and personal development plans.


Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential

 

  • Basic Medical Degree
  • Full MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric and General Internal Medicine via:-
    • CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
    • European Community Rights or CESR
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice

EXPERIENCE
Essential

  • Evidence of Higher Specialist Training in Elderly Care Medicine (or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview)
  • Wide experience in Elderly care Medicine equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • Previous experience of working in the Community and Frailty

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE
Essential

  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff including SpR/StR level
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills

CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS
Essential

  • Evidence of research experience and published work
