Consultant in Medical Microbiology or Consultant in Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases - 10 PA's (plus 1PA on-call)

Applications are invited for a substantive consultant in Medical Microbiology or Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT). This is advertised as a full-time 10 PA (plus 1 PA for on call) appointment.

The successful candidate will join 4 Consultant Medical Microbiologists and 1 Consultant in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases providing a comprehensive Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control service to the Trust and the surrounding community. There are currently 4 Lead roles which rotate by mutual agreement: Clinical Lead/Laboratory Director, Infection Control Doctor, Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Lead. The appointee will undertake one of these roles or contribute to them, by mutual agreement.

On-call duties are 1:5 (with prospective cover) and usually involve telephone cover only, including at weekends. The post-holder will be provided with a Trust laptop to enable remote access into the hospital and pathology computer systems. An additional 1 PA is paid in respect of the unpredictable out of hours commitment; this is reviewed during the annual job planning process. The on-call availability supplement is Category A.

This is an exciting time for the department and the hospital. The pathology service returned to West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust employment approximately 18 months ago following dissolution of a collaborative working arrangement with a neighbouring Trust. Other opportunities for networking are being considered. In addition, WSFT has also been confirmed as one of 40 Trusts across the country to receive funding for a new build hospital from the Government's Health Infrastructure Programme. Both events provide opportunities to support the further development of a modernised service for our users.

Essential requirements:

Candidates must have full and specialist registration (and with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) in Medical Microbiology and Virology or Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, or be eligible for registration (within six months of interview).

Candidates must have:

FRCPath (UK) or evidence of equivalent qualification M/FRCP if a Microbiology & Infectious Diseases candidate MBBS, MB ChB or evidence of equivalent qualification.

Please see the job description and person specification for further details.

Applications are welcome from those looking for part-time working arrangements.
