Job overview
We are looking for a highly trained Intensive Care Consultant to join our team of 16 in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Consultants with single CCT (or equivalent) and joint CCT in Anaesthesia can be accommodated.
The package includes removal expenses up to £20,000 and a starting salary of point 4 of the pay scale. More detailed information is available upon request. Due to the rotational nature of the contract you will enjoy up to 10-11 weeks leave each year.

Main duties of the job
Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine cover 3 separate units (HRI GICU1&2 and CHH CICU2) in two Hospitals, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, which have a total of 34 critical care beds. Between them they have approximately 2000 admissions per year in all major adult specialties including major trauma, cancer, vascular and neurosurgery.
The Consultant will work a daytime pattern of one week in four of critical care and will work all
3 units throughout the year. One week of critical care in a 16-week block is also based
covering outreach. The working cycle will increase to 20 weeks as recruitment increases.
The Anaesthetic department covers the same two hospitals. There are 66 consultants within the department who provide in excess of 30,000 anaesthetics per year to a vast range of surgical specialties and many other clinical areas.
In December 2021 a brand new purpose built, state of the art Critical Care building was opened at the Hull Royal Infirmary site. This consists of twelve identical bedded units on each of the 2 floors including 6 full isolation cubicles, 2 single door cubicles and 4 open beds per unit. The new ICU is constructed in line with the Trust’s Green Plan and will is as energy efficient as possible.
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a University Teaching Hospital with 1293 beds and an annual budget of £500 million. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and Major Trauma Centre.
