Job overview

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the hospital specialist palliative care team in Hull.  The team assess & support patients with advanced life-limiting illnesses, who have complex symptoms/needs, and their families. We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring medic keen to develop skills in this area of medicine. Most recent performance ratings from CQC for end of life care were “good” across all aspects and our aspiration is for our responsive service to develop and become rated “outstanding” at future inspections.  We look forward to welcoming the successful candidate to develop their skills within our supportive service. This post is a fixed term contract for 2 years, with the option to extend by mutual agreement.

The hospital specialist palliative care team works across the hospital sites at both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, working alongside a number of specialities as an advisory service supporting those with both cancer and non-cancer diagnoses. The Palliative Care Department has an office base at The Queen’s Centre, Castle Hill Hospital and another at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The job plan allows time for administration, teaching and Medical Audit as part of audit/appraisal and CME requirements.  Funded study leave is included.

Main duties of the job

A standard full time Job Plan (work schedule) will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 9 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 for supporting activities (SPAs). SPAs are classed as ‘core’ and cover time for CPD, audit, appraisal and revalidation.

The job plan does not include on call at the acute hospital.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to provide on call sessions for Dove House Hospice if mutually agreed.
