We are looking for 4 Physicians' Associates in our busy Emergency Departments to support the clinical teams and ensure that patients receive timely and safe care. Are you interested in this exciting opportunity to support our patients and work with a committed team?

What do we need?

You will be assessing a wide range of patients with varied clinical presentations, reviewing investigation results, developing management plans, communicating with the patient and carer to support excellent patient care

You will be working in an engaged and experienced multi disciplinary team within ED and also liaising with the Same Day Emergency Care teams across Frailty, Medicine and Surgery. Shifts range across 7 days a week to ensure that patient needs are met.

Main duties of the job

We currently have a number of Physicians' Associates in different specialties who are supported by senior clinicians in their specialty but are looking to expand the workforce. Your specialty would be Emergency Medicine but you would be able to gain a range of experience across the Trust. The Trust provides bespoke Physicians Associate teaching to support your continued professional development with study leave available for external courses.

The roles are cross site at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. The Trust has consistently performed in the top ten of trusts nationally for the 4 hour target and is looking for innovative ways to achieve outstanding in patient care.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 500,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ over 6,500 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Job responsibilities

You will be expected to attend the Trusts Induction Programme for RNs, RMs and ODPs (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the programme lead if this is problematic: nicola.henthorn@nhs.net), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area and classroom-based study days which run from 9am to 5pm.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from 1 of 4 UK Programmes
  • Registered with UK Physician Associate Association (UKAPA)
  • Minimum of 2:2 in a life science degree or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • MSc in PA studies
  • To be a PA managed Voluntary Registrar (PAMVR)

Experience
Essential

  • Previous experience as Physician Associate

Desirable

  • Experience of working within an Emergency Department or Acute Medical Unit

Skills
Essential

  • Venepuncture and Cannulation skills
  • Ability to order and interpret clinical investigations
  • Demonstrate competency in History taking and Full physical assessment skills
