The Isle of Wight NHS Trust Eye Department is a highly regarded unit, part of the Wessex Deanery, and an extremely well-equipped outpatient facility.
The Eye Department is equipped with a Pentacam tomographer, swept-source IOL Master 700 with Barrett suite, two Optos machines, Topcon 3D OCT and OCT-A, Heidelberg Spectralis, Humphrey VF networked perimetry, PASCAL, Diode, YAG and SLT Lasers, fluorescein and ICG angiography. Surgery is presently provided in the fully equipped eye day surgery theatre, with the new eye day surgery unit being installed and operational in Summer 2022.
Specialisms covered by the team include vitreo-retinal, cataract, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, orthoptics, medical retina/ uveitis, emergency and general ophthalmology. A hybrid oculoplastic service is organised with Portsmouth, QAH. The Eye Department is active in research with several ongoing international and national studies, including a national AMD study and previous international genetics research.
Ophthalmic public health, vitreo-retinal and cataract studies are planned. We have close links with Health Education Wessex and one trainee at ST3 or ST4 level on rotation.
The post-holder will be experienced, competent in general ophthalmology, with an expectation to contribute to a subspecialty role, if possible. Evidence of good team work is highly regarded. All clinicians will be expected and encouraged to participate in clinical governance initiatives, clinical effectiveness and audit and risk management.

There are frequent ferry links to the mainland and London can be reached in 80 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth.
