This post is ideal for candidates who have a minimum of 4 years broad experience in anaesthesia and critical care and have a postgraduate qualification equivalent to the FRCA (Royal College on Anaesthetists, UK). Experience in managing a wide range of anaesthetic and critical illness scenarios is essential, including responding appropriately to deteriorating patients in the emergency department, hospital wards and peri-operative areas.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the role of Trust Specialist Registrar(Senior ST grade] in anaesthesia and critical care in a dynamic and friendly department with a high regional and national profile.

The advertised posts offer excellent clinical experience with a wide and varied acute case mix, both within Theatres and Intensive Care Unit in close liaison with Consultants. This post will offer a preparation for Consultant posts, or Staff Grade doctors wishing to build experience or develop a progression to Consultant posts.

In -hours the post holder will provide daytime Anaesthetic/ITU services. The proportion of which may be varied to suit individuals

About us

There are 26 Imperial School of Anaesthesia anaesthetic trainees, comprising 6 x Specialist Trainee (ST) 5-7s, 7 x ST 3-4, and 13 x Core Trainees (CT) 1-2s.

The 17 Intensive Care consultants are supported by 30 residents from a variety of backgrounds including internal medicine, acute care common stem and foundation training programmes.

This position encompasses one of 25 senior specialist fellows whose duties include support of both anaesthetic and intensive care activity within the Trust.

During the tenure of this post, it is envisaged that the appointee will achieve competencies in the following domains of intensive care medicine: resuscitation and management of acutely ill patient; diagnosis, assessment, investigation, monitoring and data interpretation; disease management; therapeutic interventions / organ support in single or multiple organ failure; practical procedures; perioperative care; comfort and recovery; end of life care; transport; patient safety and health systems management; professionalism
