We're looking to appoint a locum consultant in intensive care. The post allows for flexibility to include sessions in anaesthesia, medical specialities and emergency medicine.

You will share the caseload, facilities and trainee grade support with the existing consultants. In conjunction with the existing consultants, you'll have opportunities to lead developments in the services within the Trust.

Our ICU provides state of the art intensive care services to critically ill patients, including renal replacement therapy, with a critical care outreach team is attached our ICU providing 24/7 services. We support anaesthetic services for elective & emergency surgeries and acutely unwell medical patients. As part of your role you will participate in national and local, audit and research projects, and unit has been recognised for ICM training and regularly have trainees from ICM and other specialties.

On successful appointment, we have a relocation package available to support you joining our team.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based in Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow and will be responsible for providing high quality Intensive care services and/ or another specialty as qualified, to The Princess Alexandra Hospital that assumes responsibility for the patients within the catchment area in co-operation with Consultant colleagues in all clinical departments.

Job responsibilities

 

  • Maintain and promote multi-disciplinary teamwork within the speciality and those associated with the critical care services.
  • Share responsibility with all consultant colleagues for providing evidence based standards of care for all the patients.
  • Have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards as set in the Patients Charter and local purchasers contracts.
  • Take an active part in the formal teaching and practical training & supervision of junior staff. Assume responsibility for professional supervision and management of non-consultant grade medical staff.

  • Full registration with the GMC with licence to practise

  • A higher degree or equivalent e.g. MD, PhD

  • Evidence of completion (or equivalent) of higher training in Intensive care medicine
  • Achieving GMC standards to be recognised as an educational supervisor
